Guess what?

August 25th, 2009 by Jen

Metaphors, by Sylvia Plath
I’m a riddle in nine syllables,
An elephant, a ponderous house,
A melon strolling on two tendrils.
O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers!
This loaf’s big with its yeasty rising.
Money’s new-minted in this fat purse.
I’m a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
I’ve eaten a bag of green apples,
Boarded the train there’s no getting off.

This little peanut is…our baby. :-)

Rob’s response on seeing the pregnancy test: “Wow! Cool! We did that? Wow!”

I’m due February 19. I’m about 15 weeks along. This was taken at 8 weeks, so s/he’s actually much bigger and more baby-like now…the size of an orange, and sucking his/her thumb in utero! What?! Who will this mystery person be?

One of the funniest moments from one of the funniest shows on TV

This is from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”… if you have never seen the show, then you are probably not laughing as much as you could be, and that’s a shame.

Dan Rather V. CBS

August 5th, 2009 by Hiland

Here’s one that should be getting way more attention that it is-  Dan Rather is suing CBS for 70 Million. Why?  Because of a report that did on George W. Bush’s record in the national guard.  In the piece, Rather references documents that showed Bush hadn’t reported for Air National Guard duty in the 70’s.  This was reported on about 8 weeks before the 2004 election, and very quickly conservatives came out of the woodwork, and the authenticity of the documents was called into play.  At the end of the day, Rather lost his job and had to apologize for the whole affair, and it was neatly swept under the rug.

Now, there’s something inside of me that says that Rather is just too much of a professional to have filed such a loaded report without checking his facts.  And not just him, but his editors as well.  Rather was one of the last true “newsmen”-  along the likes of Murrow.  He had a lot of integrity, and it just doesn’t seem to me he would have been stupid enough to file a false report, knowing that it could cause so much damage.  Also, the strongest voices against the documents came from right wing bloggers (remember, this was 2004… bloging wasn’t what it is today).

Governmentality’s Question of the Day

August 3rd, 2009 by Hiland

My friend, Allen McDuffee, is an investigative journalist and blogger. He’s starting a new section on his blog where he’ll be posting a question daily, and looking for responses to that question. It’s an interesting idea, and I’m planning on adding my voice to the mix frequently. You should, too.
