Happy Lasagna Cookoff 2009!!

Today marks our 6th annual Lasagna Cookoff. She’s gonna be a doozy!

The cook-off was originally brainstormed by Monica, Mary and I on a long car trip. We all thought it would be fun to have a cook-off, but of what?
Eventually lasagna came up and the rest is delicious history.

We’re expecting at least a dozen dishes this year. Matt is even making a “Breakfast Lasagna” layered with bacon, eggs, sauteed mushroom & onion and crepe! This year I returned to a classic lasagna featuring garden fresh produce and everything homemade but the ricotta cheese.

Be jealous that you’re far away and then hold your own!

From an IM with Leighanne just now:

[16:36] hiland: we’ve been hitched for almost a year, dude
[16:45] leighanne: bananas

Sunday marks one year for the two of us!  We’re taking a long week-end and going to Providence, RI.

I found this today- I’m pretty sure that was when Monica was in New York in 2003 or 2004, but I can’t remember why she was here. Maybe one of you does. Maybe even Monica or Mary, although I don’t think they were in this photo.

Guess what?

Metaphors, by Sylvia Plath
I’m a riddle in nine syllables,
An elephant, a ponderous house,
A melon strolling on two tendrils.
O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers!
This loaf’s big with its yeasty rising.
Money’s new-minted in this fat purse.
I’m a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
I’ve eaten a bag of green apples,
Boarded the train there’s no getting off.

This little peanut is…our baby. :-)

Rob’s response on seeing the pregnancy test: “Wow! Cool! We did that? Wow!”

I’m due February 19. I’m about 15 weeks along. This was taken at 8 weeks, so s/he’s actually much bigger and more baby-like now…the size of an orange, and sucking his/her thumb in utero! What?! Who will this mystery person be?
